The emotional intelligence assessment that ends in behaviour, not a score
An emotional intelligence assessment measures how a person recognises, understands and manages emotion at work, in themselves and in others. Specifically, ours uses the TTI Success Insights® EQ instrument, which scores five dimensions in 20 to 30 minutes online. Then a certified practitioner debriefs every report. After that, we develop the measured gaps and re-measure at 90 days, so the assessment becomes the start of development, never the end of it.

The EQ wheel, illustrative sample
Managing yourself
Managing relationships
Around the wheel
Three situations that bring organisations to EQ
Credentials beyond question, results real, yet a trail of people who stopped speaking up. Then EQ profiling for leaders names the exact dimensions holding the ceiling down, with data the leader cannot argue with.
Exit interviews say the same thing every quarter. Because manager relationship quality is the biggest attrition driver, an EQ assessment for employees India mid-market firms can act on starts with the people managers.
In fact, the jump from individual contributor to people manager is an emotional intelligence challenge in a technical disguise. For that reason our first-time manager programme baselines EQ before a single module runs.
Because the TTI EQ instrument is self-report, we use it for development, coaching and team work, not as a hiring cutoff. TTI itself gives the same guidance. For selection decisions, however, see our AI-based competency assessment.
The five dimensions an emotional intelligence assessment scores
The dimensions are not a flat list. Instead, the EQ wheel arranges them, so the shape of a person's wheel is the fastest way to read what the report is saying.
Managing yourself
Top half of the wheel
Self-Awareness: Recognising and understanding your emotions, moods and their impact on others. Because the other dimensions build on it, it comes first.
Lower scores, for example: trouble naming emotions, or seeing what triggers a reaction.
Self-Regulation: Managing impulses, controlling reactions and thinking before acting.
Lower scores, for example: reacting impulsively when frustrated, or struggling with strong emotions.
Managing relationships
Bottom half of the wheel
Social Awareness: Understanding other people's emotions and recognising how your actions affect them.
Lower scores, for example: misreading the room, or pushing an idea at the wrong moment.
Social Regulation: Managing relationships, influencing others and building strong networks.
Lower scores, for example: difficulty persuading others, or building trust and rapport.
Motivation
Around the outside of the wheel
Motivation: Internal drive to pursue goals with energy, persistence and purpose, beyond external rewards. It influences all four other dimensions, so it sits around them.
Lower scores, for example: disengaging when work gets hard, or losing the link between daily work and purpose.
If you know Goleman's model
TTI measures the same five dimensions. However, it names two of them more precisely: Social Awareness in place of empathy, and Social Regulation in place of social skills. As a result, the report measures perception and deliberate relationship management, rather than sympathy or charisma.
Dimension names and descriptions follow TTI Success Insights, so read the full description on TTI's EQ assessment page.
The EQ workshop versus measured EQ development
Everyone has sat through an emotional intelligence talk, yet almost nobody has been measured, debriefed and re-measured. The difference matters.
Every workshop we run sits downstream of the emotional intelligence assessment, because facilitation aimed at a measured cohort beats a template every time.
Six deliverables in every emotional intelligence assessment
Online and mobile friendly, 20 to 30 minutes per person. Then each person is scored across all five dimensions, and the report generates immediately.
Every report is reviewed before a one-to-one debrief with a certified practitioner, so the conversation is coaching, not report reading.
Which dimensions to develop first, how the gaps show up in this person's actual role, and what progress looks like at 90 days.
For cohort deployments, a team EQ assessment view shows how the profiles interact, so nobody guesses. Then facilitation is designed backward from that collective picture.
After we walk the sponsor through the cohort patterns, we agree together where development effort goes first.
Check-ins and practice assignments, then a formal re-assessment. As a result, the EQ change per dimension is reported, not assumed.
From baseline to measured behaviour change
Brief and design
We start with the people challenge in front of you, such as attrition under certain managers, a leadership cohort or a first-time manager intake. Then we scope the deployment before a single link is sent.
Assess
Each person completes the assessment online in 20 to 30 minutes. Reports then generate immediately, and the practitioner reviews every one before anyone is debriefed.
Debrief and workshop
First come the one-to-one debriefs. Then, for teams, the collective profile drives a facilitated session that ends in named behavioural commitments.
Reinforce and re-measure
Next, a structured 90-day rhythm of check-ins and practice assignments. After that, a formal re-assessment shows what moved, so development is proven rather than presumed.
What changes for the individual, the leader, the team and the retention numbers
An emotional intelligence assessment pays for itself in relationships that hold, so here is the change seat by seat.
People see their own wheel, for instance where regulation fails under pressure and where awareness runs strong. Then they get a development plan matched to it, so self-awareness becomes a score with a trajectory.
Leadership EQ profiling India boards can read shows senior people the interpersonal patterns capping their effectiveness, with evidence instead of folklore. Equally, for succession committees it adds the readiness dimension that competency scores alone cannot see.
Most persistent team conflict is, in fact, an EQ mismatch in a process costume. Because a team emotional intelligence assessment shows which dimensions clash, the workshop turns that map into working agreements the team wrote itself.
People leave managers, and manager relationship quality is, above all, a function of manager EQ. So employee EQ testing India organisations run on their people managers is the shortest path to moving regretted attrition.
Where EQ data gets applied
One workplace emotional intelligence test, eight contexts. The same five dimensions, aimed at different decisions.
The gap between a capable manager and an effective one is often social regulation rather than technical skill. So the baseline shows where to work.
A measured starting point for any coaching engagement, then the re-assessment as objective progress evidence.
The move from contributor to manager, treated as the EQ challenge it actually is, and baselined before the programme begins.
EQ mapping separates misreading the situation from reading it correctly and responding badly, because those need different coaching.
Sales, service and relationship teams, since social awareness and self-regulation carry disproportionate weight there.
Paired with the OCI, it shows the individual emotional foundation beneath the systemic culture picture.
Emotional readiness for senior roles, alongside the competency view from talent management and succession planning.
The upgrade that separates leadership acceleration from technical polishing, because EQ is built into the curriculum.
What the emotional intelligence assessment stands on
Workforce EQ measurement should rest on what the publisher actually claims, so we repeat TTI's position and its limits here. Then you can judge the instrument before you buy.
What this gives you
- Five dimensions scored separately, with a full report, rather than one number and a paragraph.
- Validation and compliance documentation published by TTI, so the instrument can be checked, not just trusted.
- Because EQ is developable, a baseline is a starting point rather than a verdict, and the 90-day re-measure shows what moved.
- Also, it pairs with behavioural data. The EQ report tells you whether someone can read a situation and adjust, while DISC tells you how they naturally approach work.
What it does not tell you
The instrument is self-report, so it measures how a person describes their own emotional functioning. That is useful, yet it is a self-view, which is why every result is debriefed and read alongside observed behaviour, such as a 360 degree feedback round.
There is no universal average EQ score, because each publisher scores against its own scale. Finally, an EQ score should not be used as a hiring cutoff, and TTI says so itself.

Because Seven's EQ engagements are led by Nikhil and delivered with certified practitioners, every emotional intelligence assessment we run is debriefed by a senior person, never a junior. Read more on Nikhil's profile.
While EQ work sits inside a wider body of leadership, culture and performance engagements, you can see what changed, and for whom, in our client work.
Where we run it
The assessment is online, so location rarely limits you. Debriefs then run in person or by video, and we also run an executive EQ assessment Mumbai boards can schedule in a single day. When teams want a wider picture, they often pair EQ with DISC, DNA-25, AQ or TCQ™. Afterwards, leaders who want coaching on their profile can continue into executive coaching and C-suite advisory.

The emotional intelligence assessment, asked straight
What does an emotional intelligence assessment actually measure?
An emotional intelligence assessment measures how a person recognises, understands and manages emotion, in themselves and in others. The TTI instrument scores five dimensions, namely Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Social Awareness, Social Regulation and Motivation. It runs online in 20 to 30 minutes, after which the report generates immediately. Then a certified practitioner debriefs every report before anyone acts on it.
How is EQ different from IQ, and which matters more?
IQ measures cognitive ability and stays largely fixed in adulthood, whereas EQ measures emotional and interpersonal effectiveness and is developable. Both matter, yet they answer different questions. IQ is tied to technical and analytical capability, while EQ is tied to leadership effectiveness, collaboration and how far a capable person goes. In short, IQ gets people hired, and EQ decides how they lead.
Can emotional intelligence really be developed?
Yes. Unlike cognitive ability, emotional intelligence improves whenever feedback, coaching and deliberate practice are sustained. Self-Awareness is usually the place to start, because the other four dimensions build on it. Motivation is the exception worth knowing, since it can be influenced but not taught directly. For that reason the engagement includes a formal 90-day re-assessment, so improvement is demonstrated per dimension rather than asserted.
Is a workplace emotional intelligence test accurate?
It is accurate when the instrument is validated, scores dimensions separately and is debriefed by someone trained to interpret it. However, most EQ assessments, including TTI's, are self-report, so they capture how a person describes their own emotional functioning. That is why we read the workplace EQ test India teams take alongside observed behaviour, such as 360 degree feedback. Also, there is no universal average EQ score, because each publisher scores against its own scale.
Can we run an EQ assessment for employees across India, not just leaders?
Yes. The same instrument works as an EQ assessment for staff Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR or Hyderabad teams can complete online in under half an hour. Because it is self-report, we use an EQ assessment for employees India wide for development and team work, not as a hiring cutoff. For selection decisions, see our AI-based competency assessment.
What does a team EQ assessment look like?
Individual assessments and debriefs come first. Then the team EQ assessment view shows how the cohort's profiles interact and where the collective gaps sit. Next, group EQ mapping India facilitators use turns that picture into a workshop, which covers reading cues in real time, managing triggers and building the team's own communication norms. Finally, it ends in named behavioural commitments, not a group photo.
How does EQ profiling for leaders support succession planning?
Specifically, it adds the dimension competency scores cannot see, which is emotional readiness for senior leadership. Technical capability tends to predict early performance, while EQ shapes long-term effectiveness and team retention. When combined with DISC and DNA-25, EQ profiling for leaders gives succession committees behaviour, emotion and competency on one evidence base. As a result, the decisions are ones a board can defend.
How is the emotional intelligence assessment priced?
Pricing is per profile, and the practitioner debrief is always included. Team deployments, meanwhile, bundle the collective view and the workshop, while the 90-day re-assessment is part of every structured programme. Bundled pricing applies when EQ is stacked with DISC and DNA-25. We quote a fixed fee after the context brief, so the full cost is known before a single link is sent.
Measure the dimension that decides how far your leaders go
Start with a context brief, because an emotional intelligence assessment should begin with the people challenge named first, the baseline second, and a practitioner debrief on every single report.
